The ASF exercise took place on the port site of Marl on 28 June 2018. The outbreak of African swine fever among wild boars was simulated. Several exercises were about the detection and recovery of wild boar carcasses that were transported to the collection point with our carcass trolley Porky's PickUp. After loading the carcasses on disposal vehicles, the vehicles were sent through our disinfection gate before leaving the port area.
The transit lock prevents the spread of African swine fever by the vehicles. Decontamination works from all sides to achieve the highest possible level of safety. In particular, underbody, wheels and wheel housings are reliably detected by a powerful nozzle system. With prevailing gusty wind, the safe effect of the wind-resistant marine nozzles became clear. The disinfection solution reliably reached the surfaces of the vehicles.
All equipment used, such as containers and carcass trolleys, was disinfected with the Meier-Brakenberg Disinfection Trolley. An independent petrol-driven high-pressure cleaner of our company was used for primary cleaning. The required water was taken from the canal. The required electricity was provided by the Technical Relief Agency.
The visitors came from carcass disposal plants, veterinary offices and animal disease prevention societies. The visitors were particularly impressed by the fact that the mobile disinfection gate could be set up by two people within half an hour without the use of any further technology.
